On the vibrant Markt, directly opposite Maastricht’s historic town hall, you’ll find the beloved Café De Zwaan — a place with a rich history.
From 1901 to 1932, this was where the first beers from Brewery & Distillery Meijers flowed from the barrels. A new chapter followed: from 1933 to 2000 the location became the legendary Café ’t Zwaantje, cherished by young and old. In 2000 it transformed into Malle Babbe, and since 2010 the swan has returned in full glory as Café De Zwaan.
With the largest terrace on the Markt, sunshine on your face, and a view of the historic town hall, this is the place for locals and visitors alike. The café-restaurant radiates warmth and friendliness: regular guests take their daily seat at the bar, while new visitors are pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and quality.
